GIS Mapping and Spatial Analyst

Location: Nyekweri Ecosystem or Remote with field engagement

Reporting to: Research and technology Manager / Chief Programmes Officer

Contract Type: Full time. Duration: 12 months

The purpose of this role is to analyse and map ecological, land use, and economic data to help identify conservation priorities and risks for pangolins and the wider landscape.

The role will work with the research and technology manager as well as the operations team and support the integration of different types of spatial information so that conservation actions can be targeted where they are most needed.

The GIS Analyst will work with the research and operations teams to ensure the dashboard remains simple, practical, and useful for decision making, and that spatial data is regularly updated as new information becomes available.

The Pangolin Project works to protect pangolins and the ecosystems they depend on through research, monitoring, risk reduction, and collaboration with landowners and communities.

The organisation is developing one of the most detailed spatial datasets on the movements and risks facing the Giant Ground Pangolin. This includes tracking how pangolins move through landscapes that contain electric fencing, agriculture, and changing land use.

Spatial mapping and analysis are therefore important tools for understanding pangolin behaviour, identifying risks, and guiding conservation action across the landscape.

The GIS Mapping and Spatial Analyst will support the organisation by producing clear maps and spatial analysis that help guide both field operations and longer-term conservation planning.
